There are several u-pick farms in Sumter County, which allow visitors to pick delicious fruits right off the tree or bush. In this month’s episode of Around Sumter with the Chairman, we feature two of the u-pick farms in Sumter County. There are more farms, which are featured on our website. The website features helpful information on things to do and places to see, while experiencing what beautiful Sumter County has to offer. Please note the season each fruit ripens, and that hours of operation and availability can change. In addition, it’s a good idea to wear sun protection and closed-toed shoes while visiting these locations, and bring a bottle of water.

In this latest edition of Around Sumter with the Chairman, Sumter County Chairman Craig Estep speaks with Barron Moody at the Florida Bass Conservation Center. Located at the Richloam Fish Hatchery, this center plays a vital role in Florida's freshwater fish production. It is one of the state's largest hatcheries, producing a variety of species, including largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, bream, triploid grass carp, striped bass, and sunshine bass.

The Florida Bass Conservation Center is also a hub for cutting-edge aquaculture research, improving methods for fish cultivation and management. Join Chairman Estep and Barron Moody for an inside look at this fascinating facility, and learn how it supports both conservation and the local fishing industry.

This year, Sumter County Economic Development, UF-IFAS extension, and other community partners will offer a virtual tour and educational events. This Farm City Virtual Tour will provide an opportunity to learn more about agricultural producers in our community.
